


In 1984, he released “Paper Tigers” his first vinyl album. He began performing with his folk/blues/rock band, Cats Under the Stars, in 1982 (not to be confused with Jerry Garcia’s band of the same name). Unfortunately, his name rings few bells beyond its borders.

Paul Metsa, a folk and blues/rock performer and social activist, is well known in his home state – a native son comparable to early Bruce Springsteen and his beloved New Jersey. Along with Seattle, the Twins metro area has contributed to the national alternative/indie rock and mini folk booms of the 1990s, as well as a nationally recognized hip hop scene a decade later. It is also the birthplace of the performer known as Prince, as well as Judy Garland and Charles Lindbergh.īeginning in the 1980s, Minnesota –- specifically, the Twin Cities - developed a music scene that brought forth bands as diverse as the Replacements and Hüsker Dü. The state of Minnesota has given America at least two cultural gifts: Bob Dylan, and Garrison Keillor and his Prairie Home Companion radio program.
